Where do the idle competitions take place

What do you need to do to become a champion? Train for many years, run thousands of kilometers, lift hundreds of tons of iron, shed a lot of sweat. All this, of course, is true, but if you do not want to do any of the above, then you can try your hand at a tournament of doing nothing. This is not a fiction - such competitions have been held in South Korea for several years.

In 2014, artist Woops Yan realized that her life was a bustle. Moreover, the woman felt embarrassed if she did nothing for even a short time. She decided that in the company of idlers she would feel much calmer and more comfortable. Moreover, if idleness is turned not just into relaxation, but into competition.

Soon, Woops Jan developed the rules of the competition and hosted the first tournament. What needs to be done to earn the title of idle champion? The requirements are quite strict - for a whole ninety minutes, participants must sit quietly and look forward. Talking, using the phone is prohibited. Wouldn't it be better to take a nap then? It is excluded - such a violation of the rules will be immediately disqualified. You can't smile either. If you urgently need to leave, for example, to the toilet, you must ask permission from the judges by holding up a signal card.

All participants are strictly monitored by referees. Moreover, every fifteen minutes all idlers have their pulse checked. Success in the competition directly depends on this - the heartbeat should be even. Some South Korean TV channels broadcast live from the scene, and viewers are eagerly awaiting - who will be able to win the idle tournament?

And now an hour and a half pass. The judges announce the winner and the award ceremony begins. It should be noted that competitions are popular. Sometimes the number of applications reaches several thousand, it is even necessary to hold qualifying tournaments, according to the results of which several dozen of the country's best idlers are identified, who will have to show their abilities in the decisive round.

Many participants admit that they are diligently preparing for the championship. So, for example, in 2016 the rapper Shin He-Seb became the best lazy person, who told a journalist that the victory was preceded by long training in doing nothing.

Such tournaments may, of course, seem absolutely pointless, but let's not rush to draw conclusions. Scientists argue that people of the XXI century really need proper rest: the body is overloaded not only physically, but also mentally.

The hectic pace of life does not often provide an opportunity to relax the muscles and brain. Therefore, it is useful to sit at least sometimes without doing anything. And Koreans are generally one of the main workaholics in the world.

Moreover, the artist Yahn Woops, who organizes such tournaments, assures that the do-it-yourself competition is very democratic, since it does not require almost any financial investment. Participants do not even need to spend money on sportswear. Sit in your usual clothes and take a break from the hustle and bustle.
