What can your musical taste tell us about you? The study, conducted by scientists at Heriot-Watt University, was conducted on more than 36, 000 participants from around the world. Participants were asked to rate over 104 different musical styles, in addition to the information offered about aspects of their personality. Below are just a few of the personality traits associated with certain styles of music.
Do you prefer to listen to the top 40 hits? Are the latest tracks from Rhianna, Selena Gomez and Flo Rida the main playlist of your player? If so, then most likely you are an extrovert. Pop music lovers tend to be hardworking and have high self-esteem, researchers suggest that pop music lovers tend to be less creative and more shy.
Rap & Hip-Hop
Do you like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre more? Despite the stereotype that rap lovers are more aggressive and violent, the researchers haven't really found such a connection. Turnip fans tend to have a tendency to have high self-esteem and a desire for freedom.
Do you prefer to watch CMT instead of MTV? Country fans are generally hardworking. While country songs often focus on grief, people who gravitate towards this genre tend to be very emotionally stable.
Rock / Heavy Metal
Despite the sometimes aggressive image that rock and heavy metal projects have, researchers have found that fans of this style of music tend to be very gentle. They tend to be creative, but are often introverted and possibly suffer from low self-esteem.
Do you love looking for unknown bands and indie artists? Indie fans tend to be withdrawn, intelligent and creative. They also tend to be less hardworking and less gentle, according to the researchers. Passivity, anxiety and low self-esteem and other general personality characteristics.
Do you love the fast pace and rhythms of dance music? According to researchers, people who prefer dance music tend to be assertive and goal-oriented.
Lovers of classical music, as a rule, are more withdrawn, but also at ease with themselves and the world around them. They are creative and have a strong sense of self-esteem.

People who love jazz, blues, or soul have turned out to be extroverts with high self-esteem. They also tend to be creative, highly intelligent, and laid-back.
