What is happiness? Buddhist master explained in a nutshell

We all wondered: what is happiness? Maybe this feeling? Or maybe a stable job, good friends or love? Perhaps happiness is difficult to define because it is something very personal and deep?

According to the famous Buddhist master Thich Nyat Han, happiness is just a way of being.

Here's how he explained what true happiness is:

"Many people believe that joy and excitement are happiness. But when you are anxious, you are not calm. And real happiness is based on calmness."

Essence of Happiness

In this simple phrase, he spoke about the fact that true happiness is inextricably linked with inner peace.

Moreover, the first step to calmness is acceptance. You need to accept yourself and accept others as they are.

In Western society, many try to change themselves for the sake of other people, but this does not bring peace and happiness.

To be happy and beautiful means to be yourself. You don't need the approval of others. You need to accept yourself. If you were born as a lotus flower, be a beautiful lotus flower, and do not try to become a magnolia.

Happiness in Life

If you crave recognition and try to change yourself to fit in with what others want you to be, you will suffer a lifetime.

Real happiness and strength lies in understanding yourself, in the ability to accept yourself and in self-confidence.

Thich Nhat Hanh said that in order to learn to accept ourselves, we need to live in the present moment and notice the beautiful things that are happening around.

"When we are in harmony with ourselves, we live in the present moment, we understand more deeply what is happening, and we are filled with joy, peace and love."

Beautiful about happiness

Life around us is filled with wonders: sunlight, tree leaves, caterpillars, flowers, laughter, raindrops. If you live with awareness, it is easy for you to see beautiful things around you.

Each person is a variety of miracles. We have different skin colors, our eyes see many colors, our ears hear the flight of a bee, our heart beats in unison with the heartbeat of other people.

When we get tired and try to cope with the difficulties in life, we do not notice these miracles, but they are always there.

He also explained that when we think about the past or plan something for the future, we need to do it productively.

Don't let yourself get stuck or worry about the future or regret the past. Try to keep your feet firmly on the ground in the present moment. Only in this way can you achieve real happiness and satisfaction in life.
