Until now, in many factories, workers have to manually perform heavy physical actions, which leads to premature fatigue and even injury. The Italian company Comau, together with the Icelandic orthopedic company Ossur and the Italian IUVO, have developed an auxiliary MATE exoskeleton designed to relieve this unnecessary load.
MATE weighs 3 kg and comes in two sizes and fits over the upper body. Thanks to coil springs connected to two "torque generators", the exoskeleton relieves stress on the shoulder muscles when working with heavy objects. Also, MATE does not allow the user to perform “beyond” movements for his joints.
The exoskeleton can be installed in one of five positions, depending on the work being done. Plus, you can choose one of seven levels of help.
